Rice production has many benefits to farmers, consumers, and the economic sector; however, the activity also produces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Thus, the focus on the environmental performance of rice cultivation needs to be emphasized to achieve a sustainable rice production supply chain in Malaysia. The main purpose of this book is to share knowledge and discuss in detail the water consumption footprint of 15 selected crops in Peninsular Malaysia, physicochemical characteristics of water and soil in conventional and organic rice cultivation, environmental impacts of conventional and organic rice cultivation based on LCA approach, and establishment of an LCA-based environmentally sustainable conceptual framework of rice cultivation in Malaysia. The framework can be used as a guideline for the rice farming sector towards sustainable management practice of rice production in Malaysia.
