This book, which comprises of twenty-four articles, was first published in 1992 as the proceedings of the First International Symposium on Modern Science and the Muslim World held in Istanbul, Turkey on 2-4 September 1987. Since the book's broad theme is about the transfer of science and technology from the modern West to the Muslim world, particularly the Ottoman world, each article seeks to illustrate the meaning and significance of the theme through an investigation into the specific domain of the transfer with which it is concerned.
