The two-step symmetrization is a generalization of the smoothing formula of Runge-Kutta methods for stiff ordinary differential equations. Ordinary differential equations with stiff components appear in a variety of applications where the components of the solution change at various speeds. Many various circumstances, such as the damped spring system, control systems, and chemical kinetics, have challenges with quickly decaying transient components as well as steady-state components. Because two-step symmetrization has twice as many parameters than one-step symmetrization, it offers more flexibility in satisfying order and other desirable requirements. This gives us incentive to look into two-step symmetrization and the benefits of this extension.
